The "Black Pearl " Band
Is a tale of seven remarkable people who embraced their differences and fused their skills to produce music distinctily their own Honesty in their music is quite evident capped with wrenching lyrical depth and brave vocals that is truly captivating.
The Black Pearl Band had its humble beginnings as overseas performing artists travelling to various Asian countries (like Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, some part of Middle East countries,Kazakhstan ,Turkey and U.S.A. (Guam in particular). Formed in 2002, the cardinal goal is to communicate music in a language distinctly their own and acceptance by their own generation.
With no actual experience in music, they were trained in their respective instruments and tried their luck overseas. After playing at local clubs and performing abroad for almost eight years, they honed their skills and have greatly improved which is quite uncommon in all-female bands. The management saw their potential and thus, The Black Pearl Band... beginnings was born.
Although each of Black Pearl members has been introduced to a particular kind of music or sound as a child, the members embraced and accepted reality that each has its respective influences. Instead of letting themselves get all boxed up in one area of music only, they wholeheartedly infused their musical knowledged and skills and this resulted in a sound that is distinctly Black Pearl’s.
Like any other local bands, Black Pearl played in various clubs before their talent was recognized locally. Not long thereafter, Black Pearl has been in demand to perform in a series of events as special guests, numerous out-of-town and eventually international bookings. Indeed The Black Pearl Band has come a long way.
Over the years, The Black Pearl Band has remained a household name as one of the most talented bands in the Philippines. They have been featured in several articles, all recognizing their undeniable command of the stage when performing. The band started with eight original members. They have kicked off the year with several gigs. It is without a doubt that The Black Pearl Band is still in demand.

"SIMPLY THE BEST"
Almost does what it says on the package- they mix chant-like music and rhythms.
They're Almost brilliant and will appeal to hotel patrons
of Three energetic vibrating girls and "Honey" in keyboard for their worldly, upbeat fusion of style,, but don’t try to look too deeply into it or you risk finding things you don’t like.
As for the "SIMPLY THE BEST", this quartet is one of those bands just beginning to spread their musical wings and i believe their upward flight has really begun. I saw them open for heartless back in February 2010 in asia
and have since been taken in by their blend of straight ahead manilenian pop quartet and deeply affected northern brown-eyed soul.
"Onyx" the great impersonator of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, rendering “My all” and I will always love you” will bagged the people choice together with "MEGZ" and
"JOEY" with their stunning and mesmerizing performance in stage.

One of the West Coast's best kept secrets" "She not only understands 'swing,' she infuses it into every composition, every lyric, and particularly into her third recording, "After the Rain" - Andrea Canter, JazzPolice.com
"A hard-swinging, inventive pianist" "She prefers to describe herself as a jazz pianist who also sings, but the truth is that Schell handles both those hyphenates with plenty of style, imagination and grace" - Don Heckman (The International Review of Music)
"Pianist Gaea Schell has long been a local favorite, a talented pianist and a personable vocalist who has her own fresh phrasing" - Scott Yanow, LA Jazz Scene review for new release "After the Rain"
"Subtle romanticism" with a "distinctive, swinging touch" are words that come to mind when describing jazz pianist Gaea Schell. Accomplished and versatile, she - as drummer Albert 'Tootie' Heath says, "plays the heck out of the piano with them small hands".
Known among her peers for swinging every note, subtle phrasing, and honest lyrical writing, this West Coast-based pianist/composer/vocalist is a native of western Canada where she grew up playing music from an early age. When pursuit of a classical harp degree led to checking out Oscar Peterson, Wynton Kelly and Bill Evans records in the school library, this inspired a move East and subsequent graduation from the jazz program at acclaimed McGill University in Montreal.
The real learning, however, came from playing on the bandstand with respected elders who spent considerable time themselves playing with greats like Joe Henderson, Wynton Kelly, Ella Fitzgerald. Gaea feels "it's so important to listen and to experience and understand the tradition of this music".
A 1999 Canada Council for the Arts grant took Gaea to New York City where she studied with internationally known pianist/composer Richie Beirach. Gaea (maiden name 'Brant') is a cousin of classical composer Henry Brant (whom Benny Golson studied with)
Gaea recently made her California debut as a twice featured performer at the San Jose Jazz Festival and has been performing professionally and internationally as a pianist and recently vocalist for many years in diverse contexts. Her experience includes everything from trio to quartet to orchestral performance. Notable artists she has played with as a sideperson include Nancy King, John Stowell, Albert 'Tootie' Heath, Clare Fischer Big Band, Tony Dumas, PJ Perry, Bobby Watson, Bob Sheppard, Dan Faehnle (guitarist with Diana Krall), Earl Palmer and Gilbert Castellanos (member of the Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra).
Steadfast swing and elegance of expression - trademarks of Gaea Schell's music - guarantee her ability to engage her listeners.
