COOPER WHITE - SAXOPHONIST / MUSICIAN
Cooper was born in the backcountry of Alaska, and was raised partly in Alaska, and partly in Idaho. In Idaho he gained his first interest in music, largely due to the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival which took place close by. This inspired him to pursue music as a career. While in high school, Cooper led and played in a number of different music groups, and was selected to perform in the All-Northwest Concert Band in Portland, OR. He studied at the University of Idaho before receiving a partial scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Cooper graduated from Berklee in 2009 with a degree in Contemporary Writing and Production.
After graduation, Cooper began playing aboard Carnival Cruise Lines. With Carnival, he performed nightly playing Las Vegas style shows and was able to travel through much of the Caribbean and Central America. Cooper then met iLa Mawana, a nationally touring reggae band based out of Boston. He completed two national tours playing all over the U.S.A. in many different settings. Following the second tour with iLa Mawana, Cooper joined Holland-America Line, which took him up the coast of Asia and over to Alaska. With Holland-America, he was part of the Halcats, a lounge/party band that played nightly dance sets to passengers. Cooper believes music should be fun and strives to be not just a musician, but also an artist, and tries hard to put his all into everything he does. His love of music is rivaled only by his love of the natural world, and enjoys being outdoors in all capacities.
Cooper’s first love is the baritone saxophone, but he is equally talented on the alto and tenor saxophones. Cooper is also a skilled doubler on flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, bass guitar, piano, and backing vocals. He’s incredibly versatile and open to any style of music. While at Berklee, Cooper learned the skills of recording and production as well as arranging and composition. Cooper has done a number of different recording projects including his own full-length album. He has been featured as an arranger in different settings, from lounge music to classical chamber music.
